Medical Augmented Reality Summer School 2021

Event Overview

The second edition of the Medical Augmented Reality Summer School was held as an online event from August 30th to September 10th, 2021, bringing together the world’s experts in Medical AR, clinicians, companies and talented academic researchers from all around the world, fostering cooperation and pushing the boundaries of Medical Augmented Reality.

Format: Virtual Event Organizers: Balgrist University Hospital (Zurich, Switzerland), Technical University Munich (Germany), Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, USA), and University of Zurich (Switzerland)

The event consisted of daily sessions including exciting keynotes from renowned speakers from research, hospital, and industry, as well as panel discussions and live surgery. After the keynote part of the event, participants of the competition developed project ideas together with mentors in group breakout sessions and pitched their final concepts at the end of the two-week workshop.

This event was endorsed by the MICCAI society and covered by the MICCAI Code of Conduct.

The MARSS2021 competition had 13 teams developing and implementing individual Medical AR project solutions and prototypes in two tracks:

  1. AR for Computer Aided Interventions in Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (CAI Track)
  2. Surgical Education and Training (EDU Track)
